The
Duke of Roxburghe commissioned Dave Thomas, one of the world's
most highly regarded golf course designers, to design the
Roxburghe Golf Course. With deep, challenging bunkers and
generous rolling greens, it is the only 18 hole Championship
standard golf course in the Scottish Borders, and uses mature
woodland to define fairways. It has already been recognised
as one of the outstanding parkland courses in the country,
and was recently voted in the top ten new courses opening
since 1997 by Golf World.
The
beautiful 18-hole golf course at The Roxburghe Hotel was
built in 1995 to provide additional leisure facilities for
our hotel guests and visitors. Guests enjoy priority booking
rights and other privileges when staying at the hotel and
a number of special golfing breaks are available throughout
the year. The Roxburghe Course, 7111 yards from the championship
tees, par 72, compares favourably with the finest inland
Scottish courses and should challenge and delight players
at all levels of proficiency. Golf World recently included
the Roxburghe Golf Course in the top ten new golf courses
in the UK in the last two years.
Colin Montgomerie was recently quoted as saying : "The
greens are immaculate and the picturesque course is perfect
to play for professionals and amateurs. I look forward to
playing the Roxburghe whenever I'm in the area and hopefully,
in the future, in tournament golf, because the course would
make a superb venue." While Nick Faldo comments : "I
believe there is enormous potential for The Roxburghe Golf
Course, which I found to be enjoyable and a most enchanting
golf course for the Border region. It is challenging with
wonderful views. With time and maturity the course can only
improve to become one of the most delightful courses in
Scotland."
