D+D REAL Czech Challenge final round report:
David Law sealed his first victory in over six years after carding a seven under par round of 63 on the final day of the D+D REAL Czech Challenge.
Starting the day two shots off the lead, the Scotsman made five birdies and one eagle to reach 22 under par for the week, two strokes clear of his nearest challengers in a four-way tie for second.
Law kickstarted his final round with an eagle on the par five second before picking up another gain on the fifth at Royal Beroun Golf Club. The 34-year-old made another four birdies in his back nine to secure a second HotelPlanner Tour win, having landed his maiden victory at the 2018 SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge.
“It feels amazing,” he said. “It was a tough day out there and at the start there wasn’t much wind, and you know all the guys are going to make birdies.
“I think it helped me going into the day two behind. I knew I had to get off to a fast start, which I thankfully did and from there it was about making as many birdies as possible.”
The Scot’s week didn’t get off to the ideal start after he posted a one over par round 71 on Thursday. However, back-to-back 62s catapulted Law up the leaderboard on what was a low-scoring weekend.
“I was terrible the first day and was down in 100th place on Thursday evening,” Law added.
“On a golf course like this you are expected to go low, and I had already looked at flights home. Fast forward three days and I am stood here with a trophy in my hand, it’s a funny game.
“Last week I was in the final group, and I think that helped me a lot to keep my focus.”
Law, who returned to the HotelPlanner Tour after losing his playing privileges on the DP World Tour last season, jumps six places to third on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and is eager to cement his position as the latter stages of the season approach.
“I am really determined to get my DP World Tour card back,” he said. “This win has given me huge confidence and one of my goals was to be in contention more.
“The standard is incredibly high out here but practising those feelings when being in contention don’t change whether you’re on the DP World Tour or HotelPlanner Tour.
“I’ve managed to get into contention this year and I am just hoping for more of the same. Looking to put myself in uncomfortable situations and get stronger as a result.”
Law’s compatriot Ryan Lumsden, Denmark’s Victor Sidal Svendsen, Austria’s Maximilian Steinlechner and Englishman Jack Floydd finished two shots back on 20 under par.
Steinlechner jumps to the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings following a nine under par final round. Italian Renato Paratore falls to second whilst South African Daniel van Tonder now sits fourth, one place ahead of Englishman Joshua Berry.
The Road to Mallorca now heads to Wittelsbacher Golfclub for the German Challenge powered by VcG from July 17-20.
