Former Masters Tournament winner Hideki Matsuyama is the latest star confirmed for the Genesis Championship, which will take place at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, from October 23-26.
Matsuyama joins Presidents Cup teammates and home favourites Byeong Hun An, Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim in the field for the final regular DP World Tour event of the season before the DP World Tour Play-offs. Tickets are now on sale to see the quartet in action and can be purchased here.
The 33-year-old made history in 2021 when he became the first Japanese golfer to win a men’s Major Championship at Augusta National and earlier this year he claimed his 11th PGA TOUR title at The Sentry, with a three-stroke victory over Collin Morikawa. He also won the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in 2024.
Matsuyama, currently ranked 17th on the Official World Golf Ranking, is a six-time Presidents Cup player, having made his debut in the event in 2013 and has played in each edition since then.
“I’m very excited to compete in Korea at the Genesis Championship,” said Matsuyama. “I enjoy the challenge of testing my game on different courses around the world and I expect a difficult test with so many home favourites taking part in the tournament as well.
“I feel like my game is in good shape and I’m looking forward to ending 2025 on a positive note. There have been some great winners at Woo Jeong Hills in the past and I would love to add my name to that list.”
Woo Jeong Hills Country Club has hosted 21 editions of the Kolon Korea Open on the Asian Tour from 2003 to 2024 and was designed by Perry O. Dye, son of renowned architect Pete Dye. Former winners at the venue include Major Champions John Daly, Vijay Singh and YE Yang.
The Genesis Championship will give DP World Tour members their final opportunities to compete for both a place in the DP World Tour Play-offs, taking place in the United Arab Emirates, and for playing rights on the 2026 Race to Dubai. The Top 110 on the Race to Dubai Rankings at the conclusion of this event will earn their cards for the following season.
It also builds on the Strategic Alliance between the DP World Tour and KPGA TOUR, which offers a clear pathway for KPGA TOUR players to compete on golf’s Global Tour.
The tournament also continues Genesis’ worldwide involvement in golf, which also includes the Genesis Scottish Open – a co-sanctioned tournament between the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, of which it has been Title Partner since 2022 – and the Genesis Invitational, which has featured on the PGA TOUR since 2017. Genesis also supports the Presidents Cup, Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the Genesis Point System for the KPGA TOUR. The brand is also a Founding Partner of the TGL, which started earlier this year.
