Hamish Brown will be looking to put the disappointment of last week’s play-off loss at the Challenge de Catalunya behind him when he tees it up on home soil at the Danish Golf Challenge.
The Dane took a two-shot lead into the final round at Fontanals Golf Club, but a six-under par 66 from Spaniard Pablo Ereno saw the pair both finish on 22 under par, before Ereno prevailed on the second extra hole.
Despite the disappointment, Brown is taking the positives from the week into his home event at Odense Eventyr Golf.
“It was a nice week,” he said. “I’m a little disappointed I didn’t win but that’s golf at the end of the day.
“I couldn’t do much more, I had a bad start on Sunday but I didn’t let that get me out of it.
“It was a very positive week. I have positive memories of that place so it was nice to come back and play some decent golf and I’ll try to keep that going.”
The 27-year-old has had a good season to date, with the runner up finish in Girona accompanied by three other top 25s, placing him seventh in the Road to Mallorca Rankings, comfortably in the hunt for the top 15 finish that would secure a card on the DP World Tour.
Brown had graduated from the HotelPlanner Tour in 2024, but is back after struggling on Golf’s Global Tour last season. He is keen to take the step up again, however, and feels better prepared to do so than two years ago.
“Being on the DP World Tour was fun, but it was tough because I didn’t play as well as I wanted to,” he added.
“I think you don’t expect it somehow because you think when you get to the big stage it’s going to be great, everything’s going to be nice, but that’s not the reality.
“I did my best but you live and you learn. I enjoyed my time out there and I’d really like to get back out there and try again.”
The man from Aalborg, in North Denmark, has had a stop-start season, but is hoping to continue his good form at a familiar venue.
“After DP World Tour Q-School I had two months off, then I played three weeks in Africa, then I had nearly three months off so its been really weird,” Brown admitted.
“I haven’t had that big a period of time off in a very long time, but I think it’s been good to be at home.
“We’re about three hours from home here, but I’ve played here before in 2024 and in the Nordic Golf League. I think I finished 11th here in ’24 so I find the place quite nice and it’s a good city.
“It’s nice to play in Denmark, you see some old friends and some familiar faces who are all part of it. It’s nice but it’s still the same as every other week.”
Brown joins a strong field in Odense, which includes Road to Mallorca Number Two and last week’s winner Pablo Ereno, as well as former BMW PGA Championship winner Chris Wood.
The first round of the Danish Golf Challenge gets under way at 7.30am local time, with Brown teeing off at 1.15pm alongside American Jhared Hack and Calum Fyfe from Scotland.
