Tournament Preview
Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen is hoping to lean on home comforts as he prepares to tee it up at the Danish Golf Championship at Great Northern this week.
The Crown Australian Open champion is playing the event for the third time, having never missed the cut and improved his result year-on-year, finishing 16th in 2025.
Great Northern will host its first DP World Tour event and becomes the 466th different venue on the Tour since its inception in 1972 and the fifth first-time venue this season.
Neergaard-Petersen arrives in Kerteminde as one of the favourites now he is a DP World Tour winner and dual member with the PGA TOUR and is looking become just the second home winner of this event following Rasmus Højgaard’s triumph in 2023.
The 27-year-old recorded a top ten last month at The Open Championship, his best result in a Major in the same season he has also made his debut in the Masters Tournament.
The 2024 HotelPlanner Tour Number One will be joined by 15 of his compatriots in the field this week, including Ryder Cup star Rasmus Højgaard, eight-time DP World Tour winner Thorbjørn Olesen, Niklas Nørgaard and Jacob Skov Olesen, who is currently the highest-ranked Danish player on the Race to Dubai Rankings, starting the week in 23rd place.
Two-time Masters Champion Bubba Watson will make his first appearance on European soil in 2026, alongside 2016 Open Champion Henrik Stenson who is looking to add to his 11 DP World Tour titles.
Alexander Björk will bid farewell to the DP World Tour this week in Denmark, having made 178 appearances and claimed his sole victory at the 2018 Volvo China Open. The Swede also won the 2016 Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge on the HotelPlanner Tour, a year where he finished seventh in the Rankings to earn promotion to the DP World Tour.
The Danish Golf Championship is the fourth of five events on the Closing Swing, the last of five Global Swings in the 2026 DP World Tour season, with exemptions into the Back 9 and the next Rolex Series event of the season, the BMW PGA Championship, on offer.

The last couple of weeks I’ve been starting to feel that strain getting a toll on me so this is going to be the last event of that set in a row and then I’ll be horizontal next week.
It’s been a bit of a difficult season, I’ve had some good results in there but I feel like it’s been an almost kind of season.
I’ve had a lot of weeks where I felt like the game has been in pretty good shape but just with subtle things slightly off so I’m looking forward to this week and a break and then finishing the year strong.
It was a massive boost of confidence and nice to put in a good finish. With it being a Major it was pretty good points as well for the Rankings both here and across the pond.
It was a nice result that put me in a decent position going into the fall and after this break hopefully I can finish the fall off strong.
Rasmus Højgaard: It feels great. I’ve been looking forward to this place, this event. The course is great, I think. Everyone that’s been out there has been very positive about it. So I think that’s great for us.
It’s certainly very different from last year, when it was more of a tree line and a bit more old school. Here we have a brand new course where there’s some distance to it and you’ve got a few drivable holes and par-fives that are gettable, but you certainly have to survive a good amount of holes out there to put a good score together.
I think one of the key things is that there are certain holes where driving is super important. You’ve got quite a bit of water in play out here. But then there’s not much penalty in the rough. I think it’s fairly forgiving of the tee, but certainly being able to hit a lot of greens out here would be a big thing.
I feel like the game is good. I certainly had two decent weeks in America. It’s always a little difficult to say where the game is, but I’ve seen some really good stuff the last few weeks and hopefully I can carry some of that into this week.
It’s great. I didn’t know what to expect, to be honest, but there’s a good showing out there today. The weather doesn’t get any better as well. I think we’re in for a treat this week.
Alexander Björk: It’s completely my own decision and that feels good to be able to take that decision. It’s something that I’ve been thinking quite a bit on it. I’m really happy with the career I had. Obviously, there are some things like I wanted to win more times. I won one time but I’m happy with the win I have, for example. So, there are things I will miss and things I will not miss. It’s a tough decision, but in the end, I felt like I needed to take it for myself.
The moments on the golf course when you have the chance to win or chance to do a really good tournament. I think like those moments when you hole a winning putt or something, I think that’s going to be what I miss the most.
It feels really strange coming back after a year away. I’ve not played much golf this year. I played a bit the last few weeks, but I mean, given that this time of the year normally I’ve played like, I don’t know, 50, 100 rounds. I think this year I’ve played seven so it’s very different from normal. I mean, when you go to the first tee you always want to play well. You’re going to try your best with every shot but I’m not going to put any pressure because I haven’t played a tournament in a year so I’m going to feel a bit rusty I guess as well. I just hope to have a really nice week.
