Footballer superstar Gareth Bale will join the star-studded Celebrity Pro-Am ahead of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club on Wednesday September 10, 2025.

The Welshman, who represented his country on 111 occasions during a glittering career that saw him lift five Champions League titles with Real Madrid, will be amongst the entertainment and sports stars teeing it up in the traditional curtain raiser of the BMW PGA Championship, the third Rolex Series event of the year.

The 35-year-old joins previously announced sporting icons Sir Andy Murray, the two-time tennis Grand Slam winner, Ashes hero and England Men’s Test team captain Ben Stokes, and Chelsea legend John Terry, as well as McLaren Racing duo Lando Norris and CEO Zak Brown. Bale, an avid golf fan and player, rose to fame at Tottenham Hotspur before joining Los Blancos for a then world-record fee. Whilst in the Spanish capital, he went on to add four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, three LaLiga titles, one Copa Del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups to his trophy cabinet, as well as playing a key role in helping Wales reach the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2016, scoring three times in the process.

Darrell O’Hora, the Championship Director of the BMW PGA Championship, said: “We are delighted to welcome Gareth back to Wentworth Club for what has become one of the highlights of the week.

“Gareth has become a familiar face at our Pro-Ams over the last few years and we are thrilled to welcome someone of his stature each time he tees it up. With the line-up for both the Celebrity Pro-Am and the BMW PGA Championship really coming together, the excitement is building and we can’t wait for what promises to be a fantastic day out for the whole family.”

The 2025 BMW PGA Championship will see defending champion Billy Horschel joined by a plethora of golfing stars, including Career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy, fellow Major winners Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and Adam Scott, Rolex Series winners Robert MacIntyre and Tommy Fleetwood, and two-time PGA TOUR winner Ludvig Åberg.
