Lauri Ruuska will be hoping to win the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge supported by Finnish Golf Union for the second time when he tees it up at Vierumäki Resort this week.
The 31-year-oldbecame the second player from Finland to win on home soil after he clinched his maiden HotelPlanner Tour title with a seven-shot victory in 2023. He also became just the fourth player in the Tour’s history to shoot a round of 59 or better when he achieved the feat during round one.
The Finn has struggled for consistency so far on the 2025 Road to Mallorca but is hoping a return to his homeland can provide the catalyst for an upturn in form.
“It was very cool to win here two years ago,” he said. “It was a bit of a relief for me at the time because I had been playing on the HotelPlanner Tour for a long time and to finally win, especially in my home country, was huge for me.
“I had my friends and family with me and there were so many people around the green. It was such a special feeling and they’re the moments that we play the game for.
“Good memories definitely bring some confidence, and you start to remember some of the shots that you hit, especially when I shot 59. It’s been a bit of a challenge for me recently but hopefully I can lean on those memories and start to play some good golf again.”
A strong field assembles in Finland this week with Ruuska joined by Road to Mallorca Number One Josh Berry, three-time PGA TOUR winner Jonas Blixt, last week’s Irish Challenge winner Oihan Guillamoundeguy and South African Daniel van Tonder, who is targeting automatic promotion to the DP World Tour with a third victory of the season.
The first round gets under way tomorrow at 7:30am local time, with Ruuska teeing it up alongside Berry and Blixt at 1:20pm.
