Round Two Report

Cameron Tringale is the halfway leader at the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open after battling his way to a second-round 72 to head into the weekend on seven under par.

The American fought against strong afternoon winds in the third Rolex Series event of 2022 - the first tournament to be co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR - and maintained his three shot lead over his closest challengers in Major winner Gary Woodland and countryman Doug Ghim.

A four-strong group sit one shot further behind Woodland and Ghim, who posted rounds of 72 and 69 respectively at The Renaissance Club, and leader Tringale will be looking over his shoulder at the big names waiting to pounce.

After shooting an opening 71 in difficult weather conditions on Thursday afternoon, newly-crowned Major Champion Matt Fitzpatrick showed what he is capable of, firing six birdies and storming into contention despite two late bogeys. He signed for a 66 to sit at three under alongside Xander Schauffele, who went one better, carding the low round of the day.

Joining Fitzpatrick and Schauffele on three under are Jordan Smith and Kurt Kitayama. The Englishman hit an incredible hole-in-one on the par three 17th hole, earning him and his caddie a Genesis vehicle each.

Smith was on his way to a three under finish when he hit a remarkable 186 yard shot with his six iron and was handed the keys to a new Electrified GV70 SUV, while his caddie, Sam Matton was given an all-electric Genesis GV60.

Tyrrell Hatton was on two under alongside Rafa Cabrera Bello, Rickie Fowler, Rasmus Højgaard and Joaquin Niemann.

Player Quotes

Cameron Tringale: "It was definitely more difficult for me today. Yesterday, it seemed pretty easy, and today, it seemed like every hole was a grind to make par. So anyway, happy to be done and happy to be off the course and get some rest.

"It's a lot, I guess. I mean, the wind is maneuvering the ball in some interesting ways and it's starting to bounce a bit more, too, ash the greens. Really just letting the game come to you, letting your round come as it goes on was key.

"I just want to keep going out and trying to play the best I can and hopefully get a good low one in tomorrow. I mean, the course I think is still gettable, honestly, even in the wind, I just need to play the par fives a little better, and you know, work on those into the wind shots and I should be all right."

Gary Woodland: "It was tough. It was a tough day. A lot of crosswinds. I didn't drive it as well as I did yesterday and that was really the difference. Outside of that, I played well. I hit a lot of good putts that didn't go in.

"Had a couple lipouts but nice to get that little run. I had a big par putt on two and birdied the next three holes. It was nice to see a ball go in and hit some good putts. Nice to get back in it. That was more of a mental grind than anything out there. That's what you want, and that's what you expect when you come over here.

"I'm excited that I'm playing well. I feel good. The golf course, it was my first time here. It's a golf course I really enjoy. If you drive the golf ball in play, you can really have some chances. So that's going to be a key for me this weekend but I'm excited about where I'm at."

Doug Ghim: "Absolutely. Anything under par today in the afternoon was really good and we had some tough holes coming in. To get out there and be at four under is definitely something that I'm very pleased with.

"It's been a blast. I was just telling my caddie that I think this is my favourite place in the world to play golf. It makes you think. There are some shots that you have to play like in America, and some shots that I would never consider playing back there. I get to use my knowledge of how I normally would play and learn some new things and new horizons in my game, and I always feel like I leave Scotland a better player.

"And yeah, I'm just hoping to keep the good play and hopefully stay here for one more week."

Matt Fitzpatrick: "It was a good day. Wasn't in the best of positions going into the round today given yesterday's weather and performance. It was fantastic to get off to such great start and build on it throughout the whole round. Played solid overall. Couple of poor shot coming in and didn't make them count. It is what it is.

"It really has been amazing, the support just walking greens to tees and people saying congrats and keep going. It's just really nice to be out there and receive that.

"Just more confidence in my own game I guess. You know, prove to myself that I can win a Major and any time I'm near those positions, whether it's DP World Tour or PGA TOUR or Majors, just have that belief that I've done it before and can do it again."

Xander Schauffele: "The start definitely helps. It was an eight-iron from 200-something yards we are trying to fly about 165 yards and for it to roll within 15 feet is always a bonus.

"Played well yesterday. Shot two over. Thought the putting was very difficult in the wind but it wasn't that it was constant. It was that it was kind of coming in and out and pretty strong breezes. As soon as you felt like you had an edge on the putting green, it would blow you off your feet. Overall, still missed a couple short ones today, but overall definitely happy with where I'm at."

Jordan Smith: "We've been chatting about it during the week saying that pin over there could be a good chance for a hole-in-one. Just happened today. Hit six-iron and the wind was howling off the right. Anything right of the pin would catch the slope and lucky enough that it did. Even though we couldn't see it, the crowd went nuts.

"We've had a few unlucky breaks today. We just stayed patient obviously with the wind gearing up, it's just you had to hang in there. And at certain points we know it's going to stay up or get worse this afternoon. Yeah, bit of lunch, bit of practise and get ready for the week."

Round Two Report

Adam Svensson still holds a two-stroke lead at the Barbasol Championship after competitors experienced nearly five and a half hours of delays in Kentucky.

The start of the second round was delayed by two hours due to fog and play was later suspended for three hours and 20 minutes due to lightning at Keene Trace Golf Club.

The Canadian made a fast start with four birdies on his first seven holes and he made three further gains, cancelling out two bogeys, for a five under round of 67 and a 15 under par total.

Svensson is two strokes ahead of American Trey Mullinax, who will return to the course on Saturday morning to complete his second round after teeing off at 5:41pm. Mullinax is six under par for his round through 13 holes, with five still to play.

Of those who have finished their rounds, in a share of third on 12 under par are Brandon Hagy, Mark Hubbard and DP World Tour member Robin Roussel. Starting his second round on the back nine, Roussel parred his first five holes and then birdied three of the next four before the turn, before lightning stopped play. Two further birdies followed on his back nine as he eventually signed for a four under par 68, remaining in the hunt in the United States.

Two-time DP World Tour winner Tom Lewis and 2021 DP World Tour Rookie of the Year Matti Schmid are also on 12 under par but with four and eight holes respectively still to play.

Yannik Paul, who graduated from the European Challenge Tour after finishing seventh on last year's Road to Mallorca Rankings, shares tenth on 11 under par, while his fellow Challenge Tour graduate Julien Brun is a stroke further back in a share of 16th.

The entire afternoon wave, comprising of 76 golfers, are scheduled to resume their second rounds at 8:30am on Saturday morning.

Player Quotes

Adam Svensson: "It was a good day. I just tried to get through the day without having one more suspension there, but I hit it well again today. A couple loose shots here and there and a couple bogeys, but overall five under par was a great day.

"It's obviously a little bit annoying because you kind of get out of the routine and stuff like that, but yeah, you kind of do the same thing, same game plan. I knew that shooting ten under yesterday, I'm not going to do that again today, so I just tried to get it around in something close to that."

Robin Roussel: "Four under is always a good score whatever the condition is, today especially because we've been here since 6:00 this morning. We've been waiting for like two, two and a half hours because of the fog and then another two and a half hours because of the storm. So never easy to manage this kind of things, but we did it well, so that was good.

"I played pretty well after the restart, so I just lost a little bit of the momentum on the greens so maybe that's why. I missed a short one on the first for birdie and then another small one somewhere, I can't remember. But I felt like I lost a little bit of the momentum on the greens, but it's pretty much the same for everyone."

Yannik Paul: "It was a long day today. I got here at 6:30, I think now it's 6:00p.m. so it was a long day. It's a long day for everyone. My game feels solid. Drove it pretty well and putting was really good, so yeah, just try to stick to my process and see where it ends up.

"I just tried to relax, don't really think about it too much and then take it out; whenever they say when we have to come back out is when we go. So I just tried to talk to my friends, to my colleagues and just kind of had a good time and enjoyed it and didn't try to think about it too much."
